What is a family? How a couple of two more or less average people can produce offspring of four distinctively negative human beings. Maybe their own children infected them? Everyone is born with a handicap, even being healthiest in happy home is a disadvantage calling for a moderation and adjustment to complexity of life as a whole. If one is bent to find a fault in parents, the first thing that comes to mind is love or lack thereof. There's nothing in between. In love they were not. Certain warmth of habitual marriage, resurfaced in prolonged old age after the father failed miserably to convert his second youth to, perhaps still possible then, grace of redemption. Antoni Flisiuk, born 1914 was a professional officer of Polish Army at the outbreak of World War II. Superficially warm but detached, practitioner of his approximations for pragmatism and common sense. In September of 1939 he married Barbara Turska, born 1915, in haste ceremony just before vanishing for five years, of interment in Russia, escape and stay in German stalag until January 1945. They are neither happy or sorry, they just don't have the tools for the either.

The lamest duck came the last, like an afterthought. Michal, born 1954, gifted with higher but fragmented intelligence and psychopathic, sadistic impulses, full realization of which came to him after half century of existence, when his life was already a ruin, long overgrown with weeds. Having a goddess like wife and exceptional children he's doomed for the grief of his deeds, not even that he lost himself, but that the deeds happened at all, anytime, anywhere. Soberly he considers origin of his deviance, notwithstanding one's full responsibility for his own actions, in the ultimate violence inflicted on the fifth sibling, last before him tenant of the mother's womb, reportedly aborted.

Michal Flisiuk
